What Was So Good About Daredevil (TV Series) Season 2?

After spending the whole weekend binge watching Daredevil season 2 on Netflix and finishing it late last night. I feel like I have been through the biggest journey of my life and I love it.

The series picks right up where it left off from season 1. Every episode was made so well and always with a cliff-hanger that you had to see the next episode. In this season we are introduced to two new famous Marvel characters – Elektra (Élodie Yung) and Frank Castle / The Punisher (Jon Bernthal). For me I was so anxious and couldn’t wait to see how Jon Bernthal will play the The Punisher. He was great in all of his movies/TV shows, especially in The Walking Dead series. When I saw the trailer he just proved that he is right for this role but that was just a trailer. In the first episode we are shown just how menacing and cool is the character. Throughout the series we are shown the skull that is used as the logo of Punisher and I already start to think – hmmmmm when will he put that skull on his chest? When finally, in the last episode they presented The Punisher skull on the vest it was sooooo EPIC. I gasped and was so happy to see it – sad that we saw it in the last episode.

The character Frank Castle evolves so much. He doesn’t get stale and boring at the end…..he completes his journey. With the best dialogue, Jon Bernthal, makes Frank Castle so compelling and you understand why is Frank Castle doing all the killing and you start to sympathize with him. Every time Jon Bernthal appeared on the screen he just gave the best performance of The Punisher. . I hope that someday he might get his own series in the future. Comparing to the last incarnations of the character this one played by Jon Bernthal is the best. If you don’t trust me go see The Punisher (1989), The Punisher (2004) and the last which was kind of ok Punisher: War Zone (2008) and compare them.

The addition of Élodie Yung as Elektra was also good but for me I mostly didn’t care about this character when I started watching the season. I just was happy to see The Punisher. Later in the season I started to like Élodie Yung as Elektra. She delivered a great performance and the chemistry between Charlie Cox was so good. I really hope that the character will return in the future.

All the cast from the first season has returned and they are just great as they were in the beginning. The one problem that I had with this season was that there was not a big villain like Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio) in the first season – he was the best villain I have seen in a TV show. At least he was shown in few episodes in this season. Of course we got The Punisher and Elektra but for me they were the good guys – well they were kind of bad but not Wilson Fisk bad. And we had The Hand which was just ninjas fighting quietly with a purpose. But The Punisher and Elektra made this season to be much better than the first one.

The story for me was so interesting that it got me hooked up right at the beginning. All of the episodes were just made brilliantly and I loved each episode. The dialogues were much better from the last season and the acting from all of the cast was an improvement. Maybe I got used to the new faces of actors that were introduced in the first season and started to enjoy them now. I was really excited to see the one-shot fight scene and I can say it was bad ass. To compare with the first seasons one-shot hallway fight scene, it was much better because we can see more action from Daredevil not just everything behind closed doors. It was great. When I first heard about the one-shot scene I got really interested in how did they made that and really studied the method. Knowing some information, it is easy to see when the camera goes to a dark spot and there is a cut being made and it uses another take. I think that it would be impossible to make such a fight scene in one take. Even Alfred Hitchcock and Alejandro González Iñárritu has used this method in their movies. To finish my thoughts about directing: It was awesome.

So, what was so good about Daredevil (TV series) season 2? It is easy to say that you won’t be disappointed in this season of Marvel’s Daredevil. You will love it and right away you will want a third season.
