An interesting story about how I saw this movie. For the first time in Riga, Latvia at Forum Cinemas we had a “Secret Premiere”. Not knowing what kind of movie will be shown I bought two tickets and hoped that the movie that will be shown there won’t be so bad that I would get the hell out of there after 10 minutes. Going to the premiere I kind of felt that it might be 10 Cloverfield Lane – the movie was also made in secret, nobody knew it was being made and everybody was surprised when the trailer dropped few months ago. If I knew what I would be watching before this premiere I might not even see this movie. I thought that it might be good to see it at home. But it was worth it to see it on the big screen.
20 minutes into the movie I was hooked and really enjoyed what I was seeing. I was surprised. How can a movie just about a bunker and three people be interesting? Well….it can. It made me always think what is going on. I knew that the movie is like a Cloverfield sequel but the movie stood on its own – I was waiting for more monsters in the movie. It even didn’t feel like a Cloverfield sequel. It just took the name from Cloverfield and I think it tried to sell more tickets like that – franchises sell more, remember that. The movie would’ve been much better if the ending would’ve been different – like Mary Elizabeth Winstead character Michelle reaction on seeing what is hapenning in the end saying: “SERIOUSLY?” – I don’t want to say more on what is in the ending but my reaction was the same. The beginning and the middle of the movie was perfect. The movie made you think that everything is harmonious but then things get really disturbing and ugly. It really kept you guessing what will happen next.
The biggest reason that I loved the movie was the acting. Everybody – John Goodman, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, John Gallagher, Jr. was awesome. It is always great to see John Goodman on the screen – I just love his acting skills. His character was so interesting. The movie will make you think what is wrong with that character and is he good or bad. In my eyes he is both but going more to the bad side. It is easy to say that the character will surprise you a lot. I enjoyed every minute that the actors were on the screen together. To have just three actors on the screen you have to have the best talent involved and the movie delivered it.
As of April 8, 2016, 10 Cloverfield Lane has grossed $65.7 million in the United States and $18.6 million in other territories for a worldwide total of $84,3 million.
The movie was really well made and a really impressive directorial debut from Dan Trachtenberg. We will see some good movies from this man. It is easy to say that you have to see this movie. Well made work that will make you think through the whole journey.
