When I started to think about this review I wanted to make it really short, like – everything in this movie was brilliant, starting from:
- Story was awesome
- Spider-Man was awesome
- Black Panther was awesome
- Airport scene was awesome
- Captain America was awesome
- Iron Man was awesome
- Everything was awesome
But that would’ve been my feelings in some bullet points. So let me go deeper in this awesome movie!
When the first trailer for Civil War came out I wasn’t that excited about this movie and thought it will be ok and that’s all. After watching Avengers: Age of Ultron I kind off lost hope for Marvel movies because I had so much hope for that one but it felt a real let down – I just didn’t like it that much as the first Avengers movie. Ant-Man was something different that Marvel had to offer and got me back on the Marvel train. The second trailer of Civil War got me hooked on and I just counted the days when I will finally see it. Sometimes you have to give time for some new promotional material to come out and get you excited.
And the day came!!!! As I already wrote – Captain America: Civil War is the best superhero / comic book movie that has been released and I won’t change my mind. It has so much to offer for all comic book fans and non-comic book fans and it won’t disappoint. It is hard to write something not to spoil anything. But I will try my best.
Anthony Russo and Joe Russo just did it again, making another great directorial work. I call it a masterpiece. The brothers have such a great style of directing it is so enjoyable and you don’t get bored of it. As like Captain America: The Winter Soldier, you can see similarities in the style of directing. Just a phenomenal job. Their biggest triumph is the storytelling in this 13th Marvel Cinematic Universe movie. The movie offers an enjoyable story that won’t make you scratch your head by not understanding what’s going on. You will understand everything what is happening and everything is explained. Civil War did everything that Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice didn’t do – good pacing of the story (also it was a good story), character motives are understandable, true to the comic characteristics of all characters. It was just the opposite from BvS – fun and positive. After seeing Civil War, I was just so happy and was smiling all the way to my home. BvS just made me think a lot about what did I just see – I was conflicted: was it good or bad, I didn’t have an answer but BvS was mediocre. It is easy to say that if these two movies would’ve been released at the same time, on the same date, Captain America: Civil War would have won the fight and would’ve dominated the box office. You can say it also now that Civil War has won over BvS already, even if they were released few weeks in between.
Civil War introduced us to the new Spider-Man (Tom Holland) and for the first time we see T’Challa / Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman) on the big screen. When Black Panther is introduced in his black vibranium suit, he looks so freaking bad ass – one of the best costumes for a comic book character – I wanted to go to a store and buy that awesome suit. AND FEW WORD ABOUT SPIDER-MAN – THE BEST THAT HAS EVER BEEN PUT ON THE BIG SCREEN. We finally don’t get a 30+ actor that has to act as a kid in college or something like that. We get really an innocent kid that still goes to school and grades are the most important thing for him. Sony did the right thing on trusting Marvel with Spider-Man. He feels so natural with all these characters (Captain America, Iron Man, Ant-Man etc.) and how he interacts with them is just awesome – always joking and hawing fun. He’s finally is a kid not a man. And the suit – oh my god! I loved it. I just can’t wait for the solo movies Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017).
For me the best part of the movie was the airport fight – I think that a lot of people will agree with me. When it all started I just couldn’t stop smiling and was the happiest man on earth by seeing everything that happened on the screen. I will call it the best fight in movie history! In one-word – EPIC. You have to see it to believe it.
Offering such a serious plot in this movie – with politics, friends fighting each other, different views. The movie still gives you many laughs. The jokes occur so natural that you will want more and more. MCU just is so good with their jokes.
It was really hard to say something bad about this movie. It is perfect and you won’t see nothing wrong with it. And now we start waiting for the next Marvel Cinematic Universe movie that is Doctor Strange, which will be released on November 6, 2016. That will offer something really new in MCU.
